The world could always use more hero-Hang on, that’s a different game.
Heroes of the Storm (HotS) is Blizzard’s take on the MOBA genre. Rather than creating a new universe, the game meshes together all of Blizzard’s franchises, allowing players to pick and play as iconic characters like Arthas, Kerrigan and Tracer. The result is a fun fast paced game that’s easy to pick up and hard to master.
Several guildies new and old now play Heroes of the Storm regularly, some to the exclusion of other games. As a result, we’ve set up a weekly night on Saturdays at 19:30 BST or 20:30 CET where guildies can group up with others and have a few games benefitting from the resulting xp bonuses. If you’re familiar with MOBAs but have yet to play HotS the major differences from bigger games in the genre are:
- Team XP – XP is awarded and shared across the team. Kill stealing is not an issue (some specific hero exceptions apply)
- Talents – Instead of an item shop and gold, heroes gain talents at specific levels. Talent trees are unique to each hero and most talents are hero-unique. 1 Talent can be chosen for free on reaching its associated level.
- Limited Ammo – Defensive structures have a limited amount of ammo which takes time to refill. Prolonged exposure to waves results in the structure being unable to push back minions.
- Active Camps – Taking a mercenary camp usually results in the camp reviving to full health, becoming friendly, and then joining a lane.
- Mounted Movement – Most heroes can use a mount to enable faster rotation between lanes.
- Map Variety – Several maps are available and have an impact on which heroes are optimal for play. Each map has it’s own unique objectives and mechanics.
